On the way to an integrated SAP system
Siegwerk is a leading international manufacturer of printing inks based in Siegburg. With over 5,000 employees, the company generates annual sales of over 1.1 billion euros (2018).
Siegwerk introduced an SAP system in 34 countries. To harmonize the corresponding data, to clean up and migrate them - this was among others the task for the experts of GAMBIT Consulting.
Automated source data extraction and intermediate storage, manual data harmonization, data import with the ZMIG migration tools - this is how the GAMBIT experts managed one successful go-live after the other.
Minimized migration effort for all parties involved and the desired "zero downtime" - GAMBIT delivered what the customer wanted and what was agreed upon. Which bigger advantage could there be?
With the major project "One World - Worldwide SAP Introduction", ink manufacturer Siegwerk began to introduce a globally uniform ERP system. The roll-out affected production facilities in 34 countries, including 24 plants in India alone, six in Indonesia and five in China. In addition, a wide range of SAP modules SD, MM, FI, CO, PP/PI, QM, EHS and WM were used. With the introduction of a uniform and global ERP system, the company pursued the goal of reducing costs at all locations, harmonizing master data and processes and increasing transparency and performance.
The order for technical data migration in this major project was placed with GAMBIT Consulting. In addition, the consultants were supposed to coordinate the technical data migration with all parties involved in the project - i.e. with external service providers, in-house consultants and the specialist departments. One of the special challenges of the assignment: The specification with regard to the go-live of the individual projects was not "Near Zero Downtime" but "Zero Downtime" for the GAMBIT data migration.
In concrete terms, the project proceeded as follows in the individual national companies: Three months before the official start of a roll-out project, GAMBIT defined the relevant source systems and data structures in Data Assessment Workshops on site with local IT specialists. The specialists applied migration templates and defined Delta rules. In addition, they exported data and cleaned them, enriched them, mapped them, prepared them according to rules and regulations and then imported them into SAP. For this purpose they use various tools, among others the MS Master Data Service Tool or the proven GAMBIT ZMIG migration tools.
During the project, the GAMBIT consultants worked closely together with the customer's employees in the migration team. Thus, quick and flexible arrangements were possible. "In this way, one successful go-live after the other", says Vincent Saadoun (sub-project manager data migration) at Siegwerk, "after all, data quality and project success stand or fall with the people who provide their input. Here it was essential for us to have a service provider like GAMBIT at our side, who took the users by the hand, constantly checked the project progress and reminded them of upcoming tasks".
